The Glowlight Tetra

A pair of glowlight tetras.

Scientific name: Hemigrammus erythrozonus
Minimal tank size: 5 gallons
Max growth: 1.5 inch
Special requirements: Keep in pairs at minimum.

These guys grow bigger than the black neons and the cardinals. Therefore, they would be best in a 5 gallon or larger vessel.

The glowlights are hardier than the neons and cardinals. They are an excellent choice for a beginner interested in the schooling tetra family. Though they grow larger than their cousins, a school of glowlights can be quite remarkable, especially when mixed with neons and black neons. Imagine the colors in a 75 gallon tank holding 3 schools of 30 of each fish.
