The Black Skirt Tetra
Mine now resides in the 55 gallon with the big guys. I added a second black tetra, a long-finned variety, and they chase each other around constantly. The first one is the dominant fish, and she occassionally nips at her long-finned companion. I believe if I were keeping the pair in my ten gallon the long-finned fish would be harassed constantly. These fish breed easily in aquaria. They scatter their eggs, and if you have a school of them, you will probably observe spawning or eggs soon. This was one of my first fish and is still with me. She eats like a pig and is tough as nails. Their flounder-like appearance adds a nice tone to most freshwater community tanks.
